How to Make a 3-Day Disney Trip Work

A 3-Day Disney World trip is short – but it can be magical with the right strategy!

Here’s how to make the most of it.

1. Choose Your Three Parks Intentionally

Here are 2 strong options:

  • Two days at Magic Kingdom, One Day at either Hollywood Studios or EPCOT
  • One day each at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and EPCOT

Pick the ones that matter most to your family – not the ones you feel you “should” do! The first time I visited Hollywood Studios, I was pleasantly surprised and it became one of my favourites but it’s not talked about as much as Magic Kingdom so do what feels right for you.

Our suggestion? Get the rest of your party or kids involved in the discussion. Download our Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom Attractions printables and show your party the list of rides, characters, shows and attractions at each park to enjoy the planning!

2. Skip Park Hopper

With only three days in the parks, hopping wastes time and adds cost. One park per day tickets keep your days simple and focused, without spending extra time in commute.

3. Use Lightning Lanes Strategically

If you want to maximize your time in the parks, we recommend booking lightning lanes for Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios which both see the longest ride lines for popular attractions.

If you prefer to book Lightning Lanes for one day only, book it for Magic Kingdom and rope drop Hollywood Studios for the popular days.

For lightning lane and rope drop strategies at each park, check out our Magic KingdomEPCOT and Hollywood Studios detailed guides.

4. Prioritize One Character Meal (optional)

Choose only one special dining experience instead of trying to fit in several.

Breakfast bookings are usually more affordable than lunch and dinner bookings, but may compete with rope drop or morning lightning lanes.

Visit Dining in the Parks for more information.

5. Don’t Try to “Do It All”

Focus on highlights, rides that your family is most excited about, character moments, snacks and atmosphere.

Don’t feel like you need to check every box and be sure to build in one rest block a day. Even a 2-3 hour break at an air conditioned restaurant or play area can refresh tired bodies for the evening spectaculars.
